Women of Color and Accomplishment Series

The Women of Color and Accomplishment Books
The three books in this series are based on the ongoing portrait series features vibrant images of over 100 inspiring African American women. Each portrait is paired with a short biography that highlights their courage, achievements, and enduring impact on society. Each of the books in the series contains 31 to 32 women, grouped by Civil Rights Activists, Desegregationists, Scientists, and Educators, among others.

Doing the Right Thing

History has often overlooked the accomplishments of women, particularly African American women. This book celebrates 31 extraordinary women of color whose achievements deserve recognition. Most were born between 1862 and 1920, and all have remarkable stories of resilience and determination, overcoming obstacles to make a lasting impact.

The book features vibrant, impressionist-style portraits of each woman, paired with brief biographies that highlight their major accomplishments. These women played significant roles in uplifting African Americans and advancing the fight for equality.

The history of the struggle against racism in the US contains numerous people who helped in the fight for equality. Many of those who took part in this fight, especially African American women, have been overlooked in the history books.

The portraits in this book honor a thirty-one of these African American women who were instrumental in the fight towards freedom. The included mini bios highlight some of their major accomplishments, and how these achievements were influential in the continuing struggle towards equality.

This book is the third installment in the Women of Color and Accomplishment series, inspired by the events of 2020. Witnessing the murder of George Floyd and the brutal treatment of peaceful protesters, I was moved to use my art to speak out against racism. Drawing from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, “The time is always right to do what is right,” I created this series to honor African American women whose achievements are often left out of history books.

Their stories remind us that no act of service is too small when it comes to improving the lives of others and striving for a better society.
